Thandie Newton, who I had never seen before, is certainly beautiful, but she carries two expressions on her face through the entire movie, and resembles Ally McBeal in a tighter T-shirt. Although it made an impressive opening weekend this film got so slated by critics and the media that it would be lucky to break even from box office takings. The rest of the cast - Billy Crudup, Ving Rhames, Maggie Q, Michelle Monaghan, etc. The final action scene with the speeding train and helicopter also is very memorable. A memorable, well executed thriller. It's a good visual movie.
I liked the first and third but the second was awful. Truly, a sign of the times, and the audience laughed at that one. But the critical response was mixed; praise was directed at Tom Cruise's performance and the action sequences, but the plot and dialogue were criticized. Unlike the later flicks, key scenes are drawn out: there is a real Spense of suspense that is rarely achieved. The only weak link is Emmanuelle Beart, who did a good job of looking beautiful but very little else. Now there's nothing wrong with that.
Ving Rhames and his Australian colleague seem to do absolutely nothing in this film other than occassionally tap on a computer laptop keyboard and try to look serious. With little time left on the 2. What really makes this great though is De Palma's direction. The interesting characters, good cinematography, fun James Bond-like gadgets, just the right amount of action scenes and one very memorable heist scene with Tom Cruise dangling from a wire all make this an enjoyable two hours of entertainment. Their mission, should they choose to accept it is to send Hirdoff-Hall undercover to Ambrose and learn what she can for Hunt to bring down Chimera, but they will have to break into a secure lab by jumping off buildings and dodging bullets. The 'twist' ending fell flat as no suspense had been built and I didn't really care about the characters or their mission.
Nyah steals video footage and transfers it to Ethan. Cloy in exchange for stock options, to make him the majority shareholder. The bad guy doesn't change every five minutes either. Vladimir Nekhorvich to enter the United States, only to kill him in a subsequent plane crash. While Ethan is pursued by Ambrose, Luther and Billy locate Nyah, who has wandered to a cliff side, intent on killing herself to prevent Chimera from spreading. This movie will have the distinction of earning a Golden Turkey award.
Mission: Impossible 2 stylized as M: I- 2 is a 2. Tom Cruise obviously has charisma and can lead a film, but I often find it hard to buy him in action roles. Lots of guns, loud explosions, cool gadgets and fun locations. I was hesitant to see it because of how bad Mission Impossible 2 was, but I think it more than makes up for the 2nd flop and I would even argue that it's better than the first. If you're looking for a fun action film with amazing action sequences, this is it.
She was the only female in the entire film and her sole purpose was to be sexy as is subtly shown by several pointless cleavage shots. His character is more of a James Bond clone than the character is the original movie; I admire his guts and fearlessness for doing several scenes especially the opening one , and the truth is, he's not bad. This isn't a big problem, however, because there's always more action around every corner and that keeps the film going. You would know John Woo was involved by the inclusion of doves flying through the under ground lair shortly after an explosion! The action scenes are not only interesting; they're spectacular at times. She injects herself with it, preventing Ambrose from simply killing her to get it.
He tore his shoulder when performing Hunt's jump from one part of the cliff to another. On the whole, while this isn't a great film; it makes for good entertainment and if that's what you're in the mood for, Mission: Impossible wont disappoint. I give this 8 out of ten and it would have been more if it wasn't for Beart's character. The problem with all these stunts is that the parts between the action sequences aren't all that interesting, and at times can slow the film down to walking pace. I can remember on more than one occasion where the audience clapped or reacted to the action. It does everything an action movie should do very well.
There was no safety net as he filmed the sequence, but he did have a harness. British Board of Film Classification. That scene with Cruise trying to break into this vault-like room remains as the one of the better tension-filled scenes I've ever witnessed on the big screen. There are the usual: Tom Cruise running and getting banged up, high degrees of improbability, explosions, gadgets, the whole shebang. Here is a movie filled with action and nothing more.
